In Caldas departmet, covering territories of the municipalities of Samaná and Pensilvania, there is a small portion of cloud forest that has an extension of 10,019 hectares, with heights ranging between 850 and 2,400 m.a.s.l. where premontane humid forest, humid montane forest, premontane rain forest and low montane rain forest, ecosystems predominate.
Thanks to its difficult topographic conditions and climate, the hand of man has not acted permanently, which has allowed to preserve its wealth almost intact, representing practically the last of the natural forests of the Andean region in Caldas department
